Tripura CM asks Director General of Police to review UAPA cases against journalists, lawyers
A senior official in Tripura Home department said, “ Puneet Rastogi, ADGP, Crime Branch will review the cases.
The Tripura police filed cases against 102 persons under various sections of UAPA and IPC. The persons include journalists and lawyers, mostly from outside the state, the official said.
In communal violence in Bangladesh reportedly Hindus were targeted and temples destroyed.
Tripura police recently denied that any mosque was burnt in the state as was being made out in fake photographs posted on social media. A mosque was allegedly vandalised during a rally in Chamtilla in Panisagar sub-division of North Tripura district.
State police in a series of tweets stated, “TripuraPolice appeals to all not to spread rumours regarding the Panisagar incident. Please do not retweet or like the social media post without verification since it amounts to endorsing the view. Law and Order situation is under control in the state.”
