Amid internal squabble, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP), Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Bengal in the first week of May, between May 4-6.

After the meeting, State President Sukanta Majumdar said, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Bengal in the first week of May between May4 to 6. His schedule is yet to be confirmed. Shah’s proposed visit both North and South Bengal during his visit. We are yet to get confirmation for the programme schedule”

Meanwhile, the state BJP chief announced a slew of programmes starting from May 2. A mega procession will be organized in Kolkata to establish “democracy” in Bengal. “Our representatives, from Panchayat level leaders, councillors to MLAs, will observe Satyagaraha near Gandhi Statue in Kolkata on May 3,” Majumdar said.

“The party will raise funds for the BJP workers who sacrificed their lives for us. Financial helps and some kind of assistance programmes for the affected families will also be organized.”

Meanwhile, Majumdar called a meeting on Tuesday to control the dissent voices among the leaders in various parts of the state. Majumdar with several MLAs, including Legislator Dipak Burman and others, convened a meeting today. However, BJP Asansol MLA Agnimitra Paul, who fought from the Asansol Lok Sabha seat and got defeated, and MP Locket Chatterjee were absent in the meeting, party sources told ET.

The State general secretary (organisation) Amitava Chakraborty has been summoned to New Delhi next week by the central leadership following the saffron party’s defeat in recently concluded by-polls, especially in the Asansol seat.
