The 3rd successful run completed by SBI Pinkathon

December 14, 2014,Mumbai. SBI Pinkathon, Empowering Indian Women, an initiative to promote health and fitness among women along with awareness about breast cancer
concluded another successful leg of their run in Mumbai at MMRDA Grounds, Bandra Kurla
complex on Sunday, December 14, 2014. 10,000 women across age groups and from different
segments of the society participated enthusiastically in the 3 km, 5 km & 10 km categories.
Flagging off the run was super-model, actor, fitness enthusiast, avid barefoot runner and
Pinkathon founder Milind Soman along with three prominent women personalities; SBI
Chairman, Arundhati Bhattacharya, Zahabiya Khorakiwala, MD, Wockhardt Hospitals and
Reema Sanghavi, Co-founder Pinkathon and Managing Director, Maximus MICE & Media
Solutions Pvt. Ltd. SBI is the title sponsor and Wockhardt Hospitals, the medical partner of
Mumbai Pinkathon. The run is being organized by Maximus MICE & Media Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
under the aegis of United Sisters Foundation.
The event running in its third leg in Mumbai saw eminent personalities present at the event to
support the cause. Some of the noteworthy participants in the run were a group of 3000 girls
from municipals schools across the city as well as group of 30 visually impaired and 10
underprivileged girls showcasing their support to the cause at a very young age. Additionally
the run witnessed a squad consisting of cancer survivors who participated enthusiastically. The
run had participant as old as 77 years. Winners of the timed run in the 21km, 10km & 5 km runs
along with Club Marathon, the winning team of the 12 hour and SPMC the 6 hour Treadathon
were felicitated at the ceremony held post the run.

Commenting on the success of the SBI Pinkathon Mumbai, Milind Soman, Founder Pinkathon said,   “SBI Pinkathon, Empowering Indian Women is more than a Marathon. It is the seed of

women’s health and early detection of breast cancer to the center stage. In a household,
women’s health receives the least priority . We believe a healthy women can make a healthy
home and thereby a healthy nation. It is a noble cause and it was heartening to see so many
women come together to highlight an issue of national importance”.

Pinkathon is an international all women’s run created with the specific purpose of getting more
women to adopt a fitter lifestyle for themselves and their families and to highlight the need for
increased awareness about breast cancer. In the last year Pinkathon was held across 4 cities
with over 12000 women participating (Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, and Bangalore) and has
expanded to 6 cities in 2014 to include Ahmedabad & Pune. Each participant is given a card
which entitles her to a free Mamogram at one of the participating hospitals in the city.

The goal for SBI Pinkathon is to eventually become the biggest women’s 10k run in the world. More
than 40,000 women have already participated across India in 2014.
