Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s LIVE coverage of the third ODI between India and South Africa from Newlands in Cape Town. |
Jayant Yadav replaces Chahar. Spin into the attack for the first time in the match.
SA 73/3 in 14 overs: India seems to be employing a markedly different strategy as Pradish drags his length back in the over and concedes just a single.
SA 72/3 in 13 overs: OUT! Markram pulls and holes out at deep mid wicket . Chahar gets a second. Aiden Markram c sub (Ruturaj Gaikwad) b Deepak Chahar 15(14b 3×4 0x6). Van der Dussen joins de Kock. He shoulders arms to one that moves away outside off. vd Dussen hops back and pulls the last one to fine leg to get off the mark with a single.
SA 69/2 in 12 overs: Decked in short by Prasidh and de Kock gets a top edge trying to pull and it lands safely at mid wicket. Extra bounce squared up de Kock a bit as he gets a leading edge on it and short of point. FOUR! Very lucky! A thick inside edge misses the stumps and Markram fetches a fortuitous boundary at fine leg.
SA 62/2 in 11 overs: FOUR! Short of length from Chahar and de Kock gets on top of the bounce and thumps it straight down the ground for a boundary. Two bouncers that blaze high over de Kock are called WIDES! Another WIDE! called, this time down leg side.
SA 53/2 in 10 overs: Prasidh replaces Bumrah. Over-pitched and punished down the ground by de Kock for FOUR! Fifty up for the Proteas in 9.4 overs. Flicked to square leg for two more by de Kock.
SA 47/2 in 9 overs: FOUR! Full and straight from Chahar and Markram punches it straight down the ground for a boundary. Five from the over.
SA 42/2 in 8 overs: Markram the new batter faces Bumrah. FOUR! Sliding down leg and Markram’s thick inside edge on the flick finds the square leg boundary.
SA 36/2 in 7 overs: OUT! Bavuma is short of his crease and he goes. Temba Bavuma run out (Rahul) 8(12b 1×4 0x6). Rahul effects a direct hit from mid off at the non-striker’s end and Bavuma takes a slightly long-winded route and falls short. A couple staight down the ground for de Kock to end the over. Rahul lets it through at mid off and has to scamper to the boundary to parry it back inside. He seems to have pulled something while diving.
SA 34/1 in 6 overs: Tidy over from Bumrah. Refrains from going too full and wide and keeps it on the stumps. Just a single and a brace off the last from the over.
SA 31/1 in 5 overs: de Kock caresses a wide one outside off from Chahar through the covers for a couple. This one is on middle and leg and de Kock works it square on the leg for two more.
SA 25/1 in 4 overs: FOUR! Floated full on the pads by Bumrah and Bavuma flicks it through mid on to find the fence. Good length this one outside off, extra bounce, and Bavuma prods it to third man for one. A late cut gets de Kock one more at third man. A much better length from Bumrah has Bavuma defending off the backfoot.
SA 19/1 in 3 overs: OUT! Chahar moves it away from Malan from a slightly fuller length and he edges it behind. Janneman Malan c Rishabh Pant b Deepak Chahar 1(6b 0x4 0x6). Skipper Bavuma is in at No. 3. He is off the mark straightaway with a single at third man. FOUR! Loosener on the pads, full, and de Kock flicks it with ease through the mid wicket region. The ball has been changed already as the previous one seems to have gone out of shape. FOUR! Chahar looses his line after that wicket. Very wide outside off and very full and de Kock guides it with open face through point.
SA 8/0 in 2 overs: Bumrah from the other end. Angled across to de Kock, full outside off, and defended from the crease. Length, shaping away and de Kock gets a thick outside edge to third man for a single. This one nips into Malan and gets his inside edge onto his pads. Full on the pads, sliding in and tucked to mid wicket by Malan for a single. FOUR! Over-pitched on the pads and de Kock whips it to the square leg boundary.
SA 2/0 in 1 over: Chahar to de Kock from over the wicket. Drifts outside off, beyond the tramline and WIDE first ball. Driven to mid off for a dot. Shapes in a bit from outside off and Chahar finds purchase off the surface straightaway. de Kock is off the mark with a single through covers after he gets a thick leading edge. Edged and short! Length ball on off stump shaped away from Malan, who edged it, but it fell just short of KL Rahul in the slips.
Malan and de Kock will open the batting for the Proteas, as has been the case in the series. South Africans take the knee against racism and discrimination of any kind. Deepak Chahar with the new ball from the Wynberg End.

MATCH PREVIEW
India will look to avoid a cleansweep when it faces South Africa in the third and final One-Day International at Newlands, Cape Town, on Sunday.
India’s strategy in the ODI series so far has looked completely out of sync with the requirements of modern-day white-ball game, batters failing to keep the momentum going in the middle overs and the bowlers, barring Jasprit Bumrah, appearing innocuous.
India has only been able to pick up seven wickets in the two ODIs – four in the first game and three in the second. FULL PREVIEW
