Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s LIVE coverage of the Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2022 match from the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
CSK 57/1 in 5 overs: FOUR! The Uthappa shows continues as he pulls a waist-high length ball to the mid wicket fence. FOUR! Vintage Uthappa on show as he deftly dabs this full one outside off to the third man boundary. Bouncer is the response Andrew Tye comes up with next ball to keep Uthappa quiet. FOUR! Inventive from Uthappa as he shuffles across to off stump and paddles it over short fine leg and to the boundary. More agony for Lucknow as a fumble at square leg allows Uthappa a couple. FOUR! Back of length and Uthappa muscles it with a pull behind square leg.
CSK 39/1 in 4 overs: Avesh returns. FOUR! Width outside off and Uthappa leans into the drive and through the covers for four. Length ball on off and Uthappa defends. He turns a leg side delivery down to mid on for one. SIX! Bouncer dug in short and Moeen pulls it behind over fine leg for his first runs. Two dots to end the over as Avesh pitches it up a bit more.
CSK 28/1 in 3 overs: Tye replaces Avesh in the third over. Starts off with a gift on the pads but Gaikwad just manages one with a flick behind the keeper. Short of length to Uthappa and he gets a bottom edge on the pull and runs one. Loud appeal for LBW but looks like there was an inside edge. Ruturaj wants one but is sent back and Bishnoi hits the stumps at the striker’s end. OUT! Ruturaj Gaikwad run out (Ravi Bishnoi) 1(4b 0x4 0x6). Moeen Ali is in at three. Three dots to end the over.
CSK 26/0 in 2 overs: Gaikwad opens his account with a steer through point for one after fending the first ball. Another bouncer to Uthappa by Chameera and he scrambles to duck under that one. It is called wide for height. SIX! Indiscretion outside leg and Uthappa flicks it with perfect timing behind square leg for a maximum. FOUR! Into the pads again and Uthappa once again unleashes his flick for a boundary at square leg.
CSK 14/0 in 1 over: FOUR! Avesh strays down leg first ball and Uthappa flicks it over square leg for a one-bounce boundary. FOUR! Two in two as Uthappa guides this length ball behind point and to the fence. Straighter and fuller and Uthappa fends it back to the bowler. A searing bouncer next ball and Uthappa takes his eyes off the ball and cops one on his helmet. A couple as Uthappa whips the next one off his pads. FOUR-BYES! Bouncer again and this one blazes over the keeper and to the boundary behind.
The umpires are walking out onto the field for live action. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa are out to open the innings for CSK. Avesh Khan will start the proceedings for Lucknow with the ball. KL Rahul is not happy with the condition of the new ball and has a chat with the umpire.

MATCH PREVIEW
He started IPL 2021 as a surprise package for the Yellow Army. By the end of the tournament, he was one of the chief architects of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) fourth IPL title.
No wonder then that Moeen Ali was dearly missed by CSK in the IPL 2022 opener versus Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Saturday. Come Thursday, the England all-rounder will be eager to make a mark and inspire his teammates against Lucknow Super Giants at the Brabourne Stadium.

Moeen arrived in India late due to an inexplicable delay in the processing of his visa. As a result, despite checking in to the Super Kings’ hotel at Marine Drive, Moeen was unavailable for the opener since every new entrant for the IPL has to serve a mandatory three-day quarantine before entering the biosecure bubble.
Having joined his teammates for a couple of nets sessions, Moeen will keen on carrying on his stupendous form in the second half of IPL in UAE last year. With his return, the Super Kings batting unit appears to be a dominant force. He will likely replace Mitchell Santner in the playing eleven.
After failing to fire at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, the Super Kings batters will be hoping to put up a better performance against the IPL newcomers on Thursday. Besides, the management will also be hoping for Tushar Deshpande and Adam Milne to strike with the ball in the Powerplay.

Redoubtable opening pair
If the fresh new-ball combination does not strike, then the dangerous opening combination of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock will surely make the Super Kings pay. Having started its campaign off on a wrong note, the LSG camp will be looking forward to Rahul and de Kock to set the template after faltering against Mohammed Shami’s scintillating spell on Monday.
Besides the opening duo, Ayush Badoni – the diminutive batter who has been referred to as “Baby AB” by his captain – will also be in the glare after his exceptional fifty on debut versus Gujarat Titans.
