West Indies announced on Thursday that left-arm pacer Obed McCoy has been ruled out of the remainder of T20 World Cup 2021 after he was diagnosed with an injury to his right leg. West Indies have drafted in former captain Jason Holder as a replacement for the injury pacer.

West Indies said the ICC technical committee approved their request for replacement on Wednesday, October 27.

This is the second injury concern for West Indies during their campaign at T20 World Cup. All-rounder Fabian Allen was ruled out with an ankle injury and was replaced by spinner Akeal Hosein.

24-year-old picked up the injury in the six-wicket defeat to England in Sharjah on Saturday and then missed the eight-wicket loss to South Africa on Tuesday.

Holder, who has 199 West Indies caps including 27 T20I appearances to his name, was among the travelling reserves of the West Indies team in the UAE. The 29-year-old, who featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the recently concluded Indian Premier League in the UAE, will be available immediately for the Bangladesh clash.

“Jason Holder has been in the UAE for a while now and will fit quite well into the team unit,” said West Indies chief selector Roger Harper.

“He is an experienced and knowledgeable cricketer who we know will be eager and excited to grab the opportunity.”

West Indies have had a disappointing start to their T20 World Cup campaign, having lost to England and South Africa in their first two games. Kieron Pollard’s men, who are at the bottom of the Group 1 table in the Super 12, will take on Bangladesh in their 3rd match on Friday in Sharjah.
