Getting your nails done and pampering yourself with paraphernalia — isn’t the mere thought of it appealing, ladies? Well, that’s exactly what is happening in Indore these days. Colouring, trimming and filing your nails are things of the past as, after fake eyelashes, it the turn of fake nails to take the spotlight.
“City girls have woken up to this new trend. There’s a whole range of glamorous paraphernalia to give their nails a facelift. Colouring with various motifs and designs, golden glitter, 3D work, shimmering stones and flowers are a few things in demand this wedding season,” says Nikita Patel, who runs a nail spa in the city.
“The cost ranges from Rs 50 to Rs 350 per nail and the ladies are happy splurging,” she adds. Dhara Jain, who is getting married this week, says, “I am going to a nail spa for some gold glitter since it goes well with any outfit. I was looking for something that could last a week and that’s when my nail artist suggested gold glitter.” Flaunting long nails with artwork has become the latest style statement at pre-wedding photo shoots as well. Shruti Luniya, who is soon to be married, got costly nail art done for her pre-wedding shoot in Dubai.
The affinity towards nail art does not end with young girls, as ladies are showing a lot of interest too. Nail art competitions have even become a source of entertainment at theme-based kitty parties and ladies meets. Women from the age group of 35 to 45 too don’t mind splurging on the trend. Anita Mishra, 38, says, “We had a theme-based Valentine’s Day kitty party and I asked my nail artist to create a 3D heart motif on the nails of one hand and the initials of my husband on the other. I bagged the first prize in the nail art competition.”
One can even spot imported nail art catalogues at beauty parlors these days. “We use artificial fibre nails that are glued over the originals. These nails can last for three months. Many brides approach us for nail fixing since small nails don’t stand out against the mehendi on their hands,” says spa owner Nikita Patel. Women are also getting their nails extended to avoid maintenance. “Brides sit for four hours to get nail extensions with nail art done,” shares Mansi, another city-based nail artist.
As far as teenagers go, they opt for nail art on occasions like fresher’s and farewell parties. College goers stick to getting one nail of both hands done, because of the expense. Similarly, working women prefer a transparent base coat on square original nails.
