Pakistan’s intelligence chief General Faiz Hameed reportedly met with former Afghan prime minister Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and discussed forming a coalition government in Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s powerful intelligence chief Faiz Hameed met former Afghan PM Gulbuddin Hekmatyar in Kabul.
The chief of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, General Faiz Hameed, met with former Afghanistan prime minister Gulbuddin Hekmatyar during his visit to Kabul this week, TOLO News reported.
Citing a source close to the development, the Afghan news portal said Gen Faiz Hameed’s discussions with Gulbuddin Hekmatyar centered around forming a coalition government in Afghanistan.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar is the chief of the Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin party and has served as the prime minister of Afghanistan twice during the 1990s. He continues to be a prominent player in Afghan politics, especially with the Taliban finalising the new government.

Gen Faiz Hameed arrived in Kabul on Saturday after the Taliban extended him an invitation. Sources stated that the Pakistani delegation led by the powerful intelligence chief was expected to discuss the immediate future of Pakistan and Afghanistan’s security, economic and trade ties with the Taliban leadership.
Reports in Pakistani media said that Faiz Hameed was also slated to meet high-ranking Taliban leaders and commanders.
Hameed’s visit to Afghanistan marks the first high-level visit of any Pakistani official to Afghanistan since the Taliban took over of Kabul on August 15. Since then, the Taliban have been trying to form a government but so far have held back the announcement.
