It’s a common hazard of making big studio movies: Set images will be leaked. The latest casualty, for the second time, is Benedict Cumberbatch’s Marvel superhero flick Doctor Strange.
After images were leaked from the Nepal sets a few months ago, new photos from the New York set of the Scott Derrickson film have found their way online. And they give us our clearest look at the main cast yet, led by the striking Benedict Cumberbatch.
Some of these new photographs look even better than the official ones Marvel released via Entertainment Weekly. They give us our best look at Doctor Strange, his partner in crime Baron Mordo (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor), and most notably, the first look at Mads Mikkelsen’s as yet unidentified villain.
Cumberbatch looks perfect as the Sorcerer Supreme, s omething which fans will be pleased about. His casting as the sorcerer always seemed a great one, and these pictures show just how comfortably the Sherlock star has slipped into the role.
But it’s Mads Mikkelsen who sticks out here. His villain looks stunning. The picture of his eyes is terrifying and goes to highlight what a stupendous job the design team and the makeup departments have done with his character.
Doctor Strange is turning out to be the most unorthodox Marvel movie yet, even more so than Guardians of the Galaxy. It will expand the universe into exciting new directions and the first trailer should be right around the corner – expect it to arrive along with Captain America: Civil War in May.
