LUCKNOW: Ukraine became the paradigm for PM Modi’s poll pitch in UP on Sunday for a self-reliant India and a highly-modernised Army, both of which he declared were beyond “those with a history of corruption in defence deals”. He also contrasted the opposition’s alleged caste and community-based narrative with the BJP-led Centre’s commitment to bring every Indian stranded in war-torn Ukraine back home safely through Operation Ganga.
PM Modi said the government is working tirelessly to bring back all Indians stuck in Ukraine. “In difficult times, India has given priority to the lives of every Indian. We have left no stone unturned to rescue our people. Operation Ganga is underway to bring our sons and daughters back to India from Ukraine,” Modi said.
“Those who ignored the requirements of the armed forces, those whose hearts beat for terrorists, they can’t strengthen the country,” Modi said at a rally in Basti as 61 constituencies voted in the fifth phase. He alleged that the opposition’s “dislike” for the Army’s valour was reflected in it seeking evidence for the Balakot airstrike on terror camps inside Pakistan. He said the war in Ukraine had a clear message for the people of India – to rise above caste, creed and community to make their country self-reliant.
