CHENNAI: Ravindra Narayan Ravi was on Saturday sworn in as the 26th governor of Tamil Nadu. He succeeded Banwarilal Purohit who has been appointed as the governor of Punjab and the administrator of the Union territory of Chandigarh.
Chief Justice of the Madras high court Sandeep Banerjee administered the oath of office to Ravi at an event held on the lawns of Raj Bhavan in Guindy.
Chief secretary V Irai Anbu read out ‘warrant of appointment’ issued by President Ram Nath Kovind to Ravi on September 9.
Chief minister M K Stalin, leader of the opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami, ministers, judges, MPs, MLAs, diplomats, bureaucrats and others were present.
Among special invitees were former Telangana governor E S L Narasimhan, former chief justice of India and former Kerala governor P Sathasivam, former national security advisor and former West Bengal governor M K Narayanan and RSS ideologue S Gurumurthy.
The Congress boycotted the swearing-in ceremony.
K Stalin introduced Speaker M Appavu and council of ministers to the new governor.
