NEW DELHI: Ahead of Prime Minister’s address at Quad summit, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at Narendra Modi over the issue of Chinese intrusion into the Indian territory.
He called the PM a coward towards facing China and posted a 54-second video that contained news reports of Chinses incursions and asked if “Mr. 56 is scared of China.”

Mr 56” is scared of China. Mr 56” चीन से डरता है। https://t.co/taRfoRzMEl

In reaction to Gandhi’s tweet, Union minister Pralhad Joshi says, “He shouldn’t be taken seriously, he’s a non-serious part-time politician, goes out of the country during crisis. An article by non-BJP newspaper also highlighted India’s military preparedness…”
Gandhi has been vocal in his criticism of the Narendra Modi government’s handling of the standoff with China over Ladakh. In his earlier tweet in January, Gandhi had said, “China is expanding its occupation into Indian territory. Mr 56″ hasn’t said the word ‘China’ for months. Maybe he can start by saying the word ‘China’,” Rahul Gandhi had tweeted earlier this year.
PM Modi is set to attend the first ever in-person Quad summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden. Modi had left India on a four-day visit to the US on September 22.
PM Modi has already met with Vice President Kamala Harris in a one-on-one encounter and has had back-to-back meetings with his Australian and Japanese counterparts. The major focus of the meeting has been on improving bilateral ties and discussing international issues of mutual concern.
The prime minister and the president of the United States are also expected to attend the in-person quad meet, which will take place at the end of his tour. One of the main focuses of the Quad alliance will be handling the expansion and aggression of China.
