NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Friday maintained that a “true leadership” is identified by its intent and integrity and in both cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “24 karat gold” as there has not been a single stain of corruption on him despite being head of the government for 20 years.
While addressing the valedictory session of the three-day conference on “delivering democracy-20 years of Modi as head of government”, Singh said a “true leader” is marked by his credibility and Modi has always set himself an example for others to follow. “He (Modi) doesn’t say ‘Do As I Say’ but he says ‘Do As I do’,” the defence minister said.
Singh said Modi is perhaps the only leader after Mahatma Gandhi with deep understanding of Indian society and its psychology.
“Modi’s political journey of last two decades as head of government should be taught in management schools as a case study on effective leadership and efficient governance,” the defence minister said and urged the organisers of the event — Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini — to organise a seminar on this subject.
“If we look at his political journey of the last two decades, we will find that new challenges kept coming before him. But the way he faced those challenges should be taught in management schools as a case study on effective leadership and efficient governance,” the defence minister said.
Singh said the way Modi overcame challenges, it shows his deep understanding of Indian society. “He is perhaps the only leader after Mahatma Gandhi with deep understanding of Indian society and its psychology.”
The defence minister said governments have changed many times in this country, but for the first time sincere efforts are being made to change the systems in the country. “You can find loopholes in this effort but Modiji’s intentions cannot be disbelieved,” Singh said.
He said a hundred years ago, Gandhiji was advocating Swadeshi in this country. “About sixty years ago, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay was talking about ‘Swadeshi’. In the nineties, the BJP also raised this issue in a big way. Now Modiji has brought ‘Swadeshi 4.0’,” the defence minister said and added, “Now Prime Minister Modi ji has brought it with a new context and subtext. This ‘Swadeshi 4.0’ is not a campaign being run against anyone but a positive effort in which you are strengthening local brands and local products through Swadeshi.”
He said India is capable of manufacturing things for its needs. “We have to believe more in our ability. PM Shri Narendra Modi is building trust in India under his leadership After economic liberalization, now the country needs economic empowerment, whose ground is being prepared by the campaign of Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan and Vocal for Local,” the defence minister said.
He asserted that today, India’s growing participation in the world has ensured a major change. “Today, India is playing the role of Agenda-Setting in the International System. Today India has positioned itself on the Global High-Table.”
Singh spoke about Modi’s tenure as Gujarat chief minister, saying he took the state on the path of holistic development and worked for the progress of every section of the society.
The defence minister said India has been known as the world’s biggest arms importer but now the situation is changing. Now India is being counted among the top 25 exporters of the world. “We have increased defense exports by about 334 percent in the last five years,” Singh said. He further said now the Agni missile has been successfully test fired. “But this is not to scare anyone. A powerful country is respected by a strong country. We believe in Vasudhev Kutumbakam,” he said.
