A local court in Meerut on Wednesday registered a case against a BJP MLA from Rajasthan for calling Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi a “traitor”.
Kailash Chaudhary, the MLA, had during a ‘kisan sammelan’ in Rajasthan a few days ago said Gandhi was a “traitor” for his stand on the JNU row. The case was filed by a Congress worker, Rikin Ahluwalia, under Section 210 of CrPc “I was shocked after seeing the speech of Kailash Chaudhary. I immediately went to the Lalkurti police station to file a case against him but they refused to lodge an FIR.
Chaudhary, had, as per some reports, said while addressing a farmer’s gathering on February 17 that, “Some people (in JNU) were found to be raising slogans in support of Afzal Guru and if Rahul Gandhi sides with these people, he is a traitor and such traitors should be hanged and shot.”
After this, I even wrote to the Meerut SSP about the incident but no investigation was done. So, I filed a complaint case in the matter so that proceedings can go on under Section 115 (abetment of offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life—if offence not committed) of Indian Penal Code,” said Ahluwalia. March 15 was fixed as the date of hearing for the case.
