iPhone 14 Pro is expected to get a 21 per cent bigger sensor for its wide camera to deliver better image quality. According to a report by MacRumors, iPhone 14 Pro will be able to deliver more detailed images with a considerably larger sensor and smaller pixels. The report suggests that a large list of the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌’s technical camera specifications was recently posted on Weibo. Among numerous other claims, the post suggests that iPhone 14 Pro‌ will feature a 48MP camera.
The wide camera of the upcoming Apple phone will have smaller pixels as a result of the increased number of megapixels. iPhone 14 Pro’s camera pixels are likely to measure around 1.22µm, which will be reduced by 0.68µm compared to the ones present in iPhone 13 Pro and ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max.
Similar to the ones present in its predecessor, iPhone 14 Pro will also have a Sony sensor. The upcoming smartphone will feature the Dual Pixel Auto Focus (DPAF) system that Apple markets as “Focus Pixels” even after the reduction in the pixel size. Apple has offered this feature since the ‌iPhone‌ 6 in 2014 and it helps in recording 16-9 HDR video at up to 60fps.
The sensor on iPhone 14 Pro is expected to have a size of 1/1.3-inches which is 21.2 per cent bigger than its predecessor’s 1/1.65-inches sensor. As the sensor size increases, a larger lens will be needed to capture more light which will eventually lead to a significantly larger rear camera array. The 1/1.3-inch sensor size is similar to Samsung‘s 50MP GN1 sensor, which is available on the Google Pixel 6.
The report suggests that the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ could offer larger, higher-resolution images with finer details. However, at the same time, it may have the risk of delivering poor low-light performance and images may be more susceptible to noise. Previously, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also talked about the camera quality of the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ models. He mentioned that the upcoming Apple device will “elevate mobile phone camera photography to a new level.”
