Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief and former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has written to the Election Commission to not nominate any member of his party as the Leader of the Opposition, reported a local media.

Imran Khan was thrown out of office as Pakistan’s Prime Minister on April 10 after losing a no-confidence vote in the national assembly. The vote came after weeks of drama.

“I am grateful to my 123 MNAs whose resignations were accepted by Speaker Qasim Suri today. It stands firm with an independent against a change of government, the ultimate defeat for a self-respecting free nation, at the behest of the United States to bring to power convicts convicted on bail and on bail,” he said earlier.

Following Khan’s ouster, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Shehbaz Sharif was administered the oath as the country’s 23rd Prime Minister the same day after a midnight vote.

Imran Khan, who swept to power in 2018 with the promise of a ‘Naya Pakistan’, had a dramatic exit. The Pakistan National Assembly was adjourned on the day of the debate on the no-confidence motion, dissolved on the day of voting, and convened again on the Supreme Court’s instructions.
