Chasing 332, Sri Lanka in trouble against New Zealand


Christchurch: Riding on Corey Anderson’s 75, hosts New Zealand put up 331-6 against Sri Lanka in the opening tie of the World Cup here on Saturday.Winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to field first thinking that bowlers would be able to reap benefits of the seaming conditions, but the move backfired. With Martin Guptill (49) and Brendon McCullum (65) giving them a solid start, New Zealand never lost plot.

Even after their exit, Kane Williamson scored a half-century to keep the momentum going. And, a late strike by Anderson saw things going New Zealand’s favour.
