The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is gearing up for the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi, urged the people on Sunday to come together to fight the menace of black money.
“We have collected Rs. 50 lakh in the form of donations. I appeal to the people of Delhi and the rest of the nation that this is their fight and we have to fight together to weed out black money from politics,” Arvind Kejriwal said at a fund raiser hosted by the party.
“I want all people to ask the Congress and the BJP to disclose their source of funds and their donors,” he added. He also promised to rationalise Value-Added Tax (VAT) in Delhi.
The AAP had reportedly collected over Rs. 91 lakh in Mumbai in its fundraising event on Thursday and Sunday’s event in the national capital is the second such event to boost its coffers for the upcoming assembly elections due in Delhi. The party hosted the event to woo the trading community, a crucial vote bank, and raise funds to “at least remain visible” since the BJP will come up with a publicity blitz.
Thought the party has valued each plate of lunch at Rs. 20,000, most of the money is raised through voluntary donations amid discussions on strategy or concerns of the citizens.
The AAP will hold more such events, including those planned in Bangalore and Kolkata.
