Almost 100,000 people are trapped among in Mariupol, the port city cut off from the rest of Ukraine, facing starvation, thirst and constant Russian shelling.

Ukraine has claimed that nearly 100,000 people are trapped without food, water and power in Mariupol, a city that came under fierce Russian shelling. Residents claim that food is running out, and the Russians have stopped humanitarian attempts to bring it in.

According to AFP, Russian forces have mined surrounding roads and the port is blocked. Ukraine has asked for nine humanitarian corridors to evacuate citizens from cities such as Mariupol.
Electricity is mostly gone and water is sparse, with residents melting snow to drink. Some parents have even left their newborns at the hospital, perhaps hoping to give them a chance at life in the one place with decent electricity and water.
On March 16, Russian troops had dropped a powerful bomb on a theatre in the port city of Mariupol. According to officials, “more than a thousand”, including children, were sheltering in the theatre. UNGA has passed a resolution condemning Russia for causing a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
