Fifteen people were injured after a blast occurred at a mosque in Traili town in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Friday afternoon, as per reports.
A Taliban official told AFP news agency, “I can confirm a blast during Friday prayers inside a mosque in Spin Ghar district.” He said the blast caused fatalities and injuries.
According to AFP, a doctor at the local hospital said at least three people died in the blast. However, this information has not been verified yet.
Atal Shinwari, a resident of the area, was quoted in a Reuters report as saying that the blast took place at around 1.30 pm on Friday. The explosives that detonated were located in the interior of the mosque, he said. Other residents gave similar accounts. As per local residents, the imam of the mosque was also injured in the incident.
Islamic State in Khorasan Province, an affiliate of ISIL militant group, has claimed responsibility for a number of terror attacks in Afghanistan in the recent past. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the blast on Friday as of now.
