Karmaling Gewog Administration in Dagana is assessing the damage caused by heavy rain and windstorm that had wreaked havoc in the early hours yesterday.
The 45-minute-long storm from 2am yesterday morning has not only blown off roofs of several structures but also damaged acres of maize fields and areca nut orchard of more than 100 households in Karmaling, Senchumthang, Labtsakha, and Omchhu chiwogs in the geowg.
Karmaling Gup Pema Norbu Sherpa said that the storm has also damaged a poultry farm and a mega polyhouse which was constructed as part of the Economic Contingency Plan to boost agriculture production last year.
Residents said that the storm of such intensity was the first event in the gewog and was scary. However, no casualties were reported.
The gup said that an assessment report was submitted to the Lhamoidzingkha drungkhag late yesterday night.
The gewog centre roadblock caused by the disaster at six different locations, however, had been cleared for commuters yesterday.
Meanwhile, the National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology, yesterday, forecasted thunderstorms and lightning over southern, central and southeast regions during the next 72 hours. “Gusty wind over isolated places of the country during the same time.”
