Frontliners to receive the dose from Sunday to be followed by 60+ citizens from Jan 28

Nepal government has decided to begin the Covid-19 booster vaccine campaign from January 16.

In the initial phase, the additional dose of the vaccine against coronavirus infection will be provided to frontline/emergency service workers. Likewise, those above 60 years of age and those that have already been fully vaccinated (prior to a gap of at least six months) will receive the booster jab from January 28.

The Family Welfare Department under the Ministry of Health and Population has issued a circular in the name of Health Directorates of all seven provinces and the respective Health Offices of all 77 districts to make necessary arrangements to unroll the programme by the said date.

The department’s notice follows the January 12 decision of Council of Ministers to proceed with the campaign.

As per the circular, the same vaccines that had been administered in the prior phases will be provided to the receivers.

The government decided to provide the booster jab keeping in mind the recent surge in number of daily reported cases of COVID-19. Nepal witnessed over 5000 single-day cases on Friday alone, which was preceded by huge jump in infections in the past week, leading to a sharp active-caseload spike.
