SHIVAMOGGA: A daily-wage construction worker celebrated his pet’s birthday by gifting the dog – a Siberian husky – a costly mattress and hosted a lavish dinner for 150 guests in Shivamogga, about 300km from Bengaluru, on Friday.
Proud pet parent Mohammed Ayaz, who is a tile worker and earns Rs 1,000 a day, is never short on love and money for his companion.
He developed a soft corner for furry friends at an early age, feeding stray dogs as a hotel worker in Channagiri taluk of neighbouring Davanagere district. On the birthday of his pet, Ayaz cut a heart-shaped cake with “Happy Birthday, Tyson” inscribed on it. Sources claimed the mattress gifted to the dog costs about Rs 15,000.
Ayaz, 30, who studied till Class IV, told TOI: “I don’t know the date of Tyson’s birth. Friday marked one year of his arrival at my home. The moment I saw him as a pup, I just loved him and paid Rs 28,000 to bring him home.”
Even when he was earning Rs 25 a day at a hotel in Channagiri, he did not fail to buy food for his canine companions every single day. After a stray dog delivered puppies, he was extremely happy. But it was short-lived, as someone took the puppies from their mother. “I scoured the entire town in search of the pups, but to no avail. I’ve been caring for street dogs since then,” he added.
Declaring that Tyson is all that matters to him, Ayaz lives independently with his pet.
