Uttarkashi: A 70-year-old woman was raped allegedly by a man after he failed to rape her granddaughter in Khadara village here, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on February 9 when accused Shailendra�barged into the house, where the elderly woman lived along with her 14-year-old granddaughter, the SHO said.
He first tried to rape the 14-year-old-girl but failed as she ran into another room and shut the door from inside, he said.
The accused then raped the 70-year-old woman and fled from the scene, he said.
The matter was reported to the police, following which a medical examination on the woman confirmed rape, the SHO said.
A case has been lodged against the accused under different sections of the IPC�and a search has been launched to nab him, he said.
