Chasing 311, Pakistan lose seven wickets

25

Late strikes by Andre Russell and Lendl Simmons helped West Indies reach 310-6 in a crucial Group B match here on Saturday.

Put into bat first, the Caribbean’s lost two quick wickets for 28, but then Darren Bravo (retired hurt on 49) and Denesh Ramdin (51) steadying the ship, West Indies sailed through. After Bravo left the field owing to an injury, Ramdin and Simmons came into the picture.

And in the end, Russell struck three sixes in the penultimate over to turn things West Indies’ way. At a time when 250 looked a pretty convincing total, Russell and Simmons guided West Indies to 300-mark.

After suffering a shock defeat to Ireland, West Indies bowlers will now be hoping to tighten the noose.
