Bangladesh and Bhutan are going to enter into a new era of cooperation in the information and communication sector as Bangladesh confirms providing a 10 Gbps IPLC (International Private Leased Circuit) to Bhutan at a friendly rate, a press release from the Bangladesh Embassy stated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh formally conveyed the decision yesterday to the Royal Embassy of Bhutan in Dhaka through a note verbale.
“As decided, Bangladesh will provide internet bandwidth to Bhutan at a rate of USD 3.00 per Mbps for a 10 Gbps IPLC (International Private Leased Circuit) from Singapore Equinix to the zero point between Bangladesh and India near Cumilla,” the news release stated.
The fibre-optic cable connection inside Bangladesh will cover a distance of about 350km, i.e. from the Submarine Cable Landing Station at Kuakata to the zero-point near the Indian border city of Agartala.
The decision of providing the internet bandwidth and connectivity through Bangladesh territory at a very special rate is an outcome of Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering’s meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on March 24, 2021, the press release stated.
The deal offered by Bangladesh will come into effect once an MOU is signed between competent authorities in Bhutan and Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd. (BSCCL).
